Are the Gospels Reliable to Reveal Jesus’ Identity?

This book is one of the best explanations towards critical questions about the Gospels and who Jesus of Nazareth is as it describes the aspects biblically, historically as well as theologically.

For a hundred years now, many people including scholars have questioned the truth of the Gospels, claiming that they were originally anonymous –countering what Christians believe was written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

The other critical questions include: are the Gospels folklore or Jesus’s biographies? Did Jesus claim to be God? Did Jesus fulfill the Jewish prophecies of the Messiah? Why was Jesus crucified? What is the evidence for Jesus' resurrection?

The author of this book, Brant Pitre, Ph.D, a Professor of Sacred Scripture at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans, provides a meticulous presentation of the evidence about the reliability of the Gospels as well as Jesus' identity with very easy ways to understand. He demonstrates his ability of careful thinking and detailed research by digging the scriptures, manuscripts, and many sources, then arranging it systematically and contextually.

This book will prove to be a most effective weapon for the Christians in their struggle against skeptical attitudes towards the Gospels and Jesus’ divinity. Many Christians, sadly, leave the churches because they are not convinced enough that the Gospels are worth believing.

On the other hand, many people who do believe that Jesus is God often can’t explain why they believe it, and many people who think that Jesus was only a great teacher or prophet often haven’t looked carefully at exactly who the Gospels say he claimed to be.

In this book, Dr. Pitre shows how the evidence for the truth of the Gospels is far stronger than is often assumed. The book is not only interesting, but also fascinating to be read by Christians and non Christians including the Agnostic and Atheist.
